Calcite is a common mineral, found in many environments worldwide. Calcite is the main mineral that makes stalagmites and stalactites. It is found in a wonderful range of colours including orange, green, blue, aqua, honey, rosey red, chocolate brown and occasionally black.

Chocolate Calcite, also sometimes called Coffee Calcite, is a more unusual variety that is a beautiful rich brown with creamy swirls. The colour is created by Iron 'impurities'.

Calcite is a soft mineral, and is seldom made into jewellery. It is easily scratched by other crystals and coins in purses and pockets, so you need to treat it with care. It is good to incorporate in a charm for a child's bedroom.
